Dentists at ADA on Ultaire™ AKP

Dentists and dental professionals from around the country came to ADA 2017, America’s Dental Meeting, to learn about new and innovative dental products debuting this year. Many stopped by the Solvay Dental 360™ booth to see Ultaire™ AKP, a high-performance polymer for removable partial dentures.

“It’s a great innovation for sure”

Dr. Alecia Moore, DMD, from Moore Dental, was impressed. In holding both an Ultaire™ AKP frame and a traditional metal frame, she said, “I do like this new Ultaire. You can see, it’s very aesthetic compared to the other one. It’s a lot more lightweight and it’s also got the advantages of being tooth-supported rather than tissue supported. I do a lot of flexibles, and they’re all tissue supported, so I think it’s a great innovation for sure.”

Jeffrey Dalin, DDS of Dalin Dental Associates, had heard of Ultaire™ AKP prior to ADA and wanted the chance to see it for himself. When he picked up the Ultaire™ AKP frame he was “quite surprised and pleased.” He mentioned how light it was, and how good it looked.

“A lot of people don’t like the heaviness of the metal”

When asked about her experience with prescribing metal partials, Dr. Moore commented, “A lot of people don’t like the heaviness of the metal, and the look of the metal and the feel of the metal.” Many of her patients no longer wear their metal partials because they don’t like them, she said.

Vasco Lowery, DMD, Lowery Dental Group, was specifically looking for a metal-free option in removables. He found it. “I was interested in checking [Ultaire™ AKP] out because of it not having metal, being more aesthetic, and being able to blend in more with the tooth structure.”

“Patients are requesting this,” said Dr. Dalin. With metal partials, patients often ask him, “This is what I have to wear?” Now with Ultaire™ AKP, he has an alternative to offer patients.

“Happy patients benefit a practice plain, and simple”

We asked dentists visiting the Solvay Dental 360™ booth if they thought the product had benefits and what those were.

“I think Ultaire™ AKP will definitely benefit my patients,” said Dr. Moore.

“I like that it’s lightweight and tooth-colored and has some flexibility,” said Dr. Lowery.

Dr. Dalin was intrigued by “the cutting edge, brand new” aspect of the product. “That’s when patients are really good about spreading the word,” he said, adding, “it’s always good to be in on these things right at the beginning.”

“Happy patients benefit a practice plain, and simple,” said Dalin. “I’m looking forward to trying my first case.”
